Serving Paintings
Paintings could invoke in us different emotions.
Among these, feelings of despair, hope, disgust, love could be raised. Each artist tries to convey to the audience what he believes into or just even what he feels.
Technically, painting is described as the application of the pigment, or color or paint, among other mediums on a surface. In art, the act is also called as painting as well as the end result itself. Paintings, like in a still life or landscape, may be naturalistic and figurative in nature. It can also be photographic, abstract and may have a story to tell. Thus, paintings may be loaded with emotion and symbolism.
But for the artists themselves, painting is a means of expression. And it has its numerous forms.
For both the East and West, a portion in the history of paintings was dominated by spiritual themes and thoughts. Mythological figures were commonly depicted on pottery. The Biblical scenes painted on the Sistine Chapel’s walls and ceiling, were astounding. Scenes from Buddha’s life and other eastern scenes which are of religious in origin are also evident.
If pitch and rhythm is for music, color and tone is for painting. It is basically the core and soul of painting. Color is a highly subjective matter. Although color interpretations and expressions differ from one culture to another, it has observable psychological effects. Black could symbolize grief in the West, while white symbolizes the same within the borders of the East. In fact, Goethe, Kandinsky, Newton and some other scientists along with some painters and writers have written their own theories on color.
Moreover, color equivalents are actually a generalization with words. For example, "red" can cover an extensive collection of variation on red of the observable spectrum or band of light.
Painters, deal practically with pigments. For them color is not simply divided into the basic and complementary colors. So for a painter, a "blue" can fall on any of these blues: Paris blue, turquoise blue, cobalt, indigo and so on.
Colors add to the possible, resulting perspective of meanings. That is why paintings are very subjective because of these perceptions.
At the beginning of the 21st century, several stylistic pieces of painting have been introduced. Among the ongoing, and in progress courses in painting are: Photorealism, Monochrome painting, Geometric abstraction, Hyperrealism, Expressionism, Hard-edge painting Lyrical Abstraction, Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Graffiti, Op Art, Neo-expressionism, Intermediate painting, Collage, Assemblage painting, Minimalism, Computer-art painting, Appropriation, Postmodern painting, Landscape painting, Neo-Dada painting, Shaped canvas painting, paint-on-glass animation and the portrait painting.
Usually, art and music studies have been put on the back shelf. This is probably because funding for education is decreased in certain areas and is put to other uses. But the idea actually is that some think that they are not rather as important to education as English, history, math, and science. Obviously, artist would definitely have other views regarding these, along with the people who are slowly realizing the importance of art.
Art galleries, thus, play an important role in giving venues for art pieces to be displayed and appreciated by the people.
Technically it is described as institutions that collect, preserve, study and present permanent collections of heritage objects to the public.
Art galleries often house different artistic events even if their main concern is just to provide venue for the display of visual arts. Such activities could include poetry readings and music concerts.
Paintings are the most commonly displayed art objects in art galleries. However, other objects from the applied arts may also be shown. Among these are: sculpture, photographs, illustrations and installation art.
Art galleries can refer to both public galleries and private galleries. Selected art pieces and collections are displayed in public galleries or what is commonly known as museums. Private galleries alternatively are commercial firms that sell art pieces and other works of art. Borrowed arts, from different places, for temporary exhibitions or even traveling exhibits can be hosted by both types of galleries though.
These expressions of arts may be viewed differently by people. But one thing is for sure, it definitely depict the culture of a country. And even for that sole reason, it is worth cultivating.
